It uses sensors to read its environment. In simple words, it knows how to dodge obstacles to reach you in your bedroom.

Until now, we have heard of smartphones, smartwatches, smart TVs, smart jackets and many others. How about a smart refrigerator? Panasonic has had a go at a smart refrigerator and it’s a proper smart refrigerator, not some dumb metal box with an Android tablet stuck on its face.

The Movable Fridge Concept was shown off at the IFA in Berlin this week. The small refrigerator will wander to your dining table or to your sofa when you are concentrating on your XBOX sessions but need drinks break. It works just like those smart robot vacuum cleaners (read the review of the iRobot Brava Jet 240), using sensors to read its environment. In simple words, it knows how to dodge obstacles to reach you in your bedroom.

According to video, it seems that this robotic refrigerator uses a battery to power itself. It probably recharges itself when it rests at its dock in the kitchen. However, we see one small issue with this robotic refrigerator — it’s pretty small, which means that you would only be able to stuff drinks and beverages for now. But this is a good start for a future where you might bump into moving refrigerators taking a stroll in your drawing room (pun intended).
