High-end CPUs for gaming the new rage
Their market has seen a surge recently in country.
Hyderabad: While the market for desktop computer has dwarfed with the advent of mobile phones and laptops, the high-end computer segment has seen a surge. These computers are coming out in various variants like with built-in liquid coolant and customisable to resemble a truck, among others. They are primarily used by gamers and graphic designers. Gamers prefer desktops as they do not have a tied limit, which means they can expand the processing capability and data storage.
The low-end and mid-range computers are out of use right now. The market for high-end computers has many takers. In India, however, there are hardly any manufacturers who make high-end computers. Therefore, gamers and designers have to buy the parts from abroad and assemble them for themselves. Now, start-ups are exploring this area.
One challenge is the generation of heat when a high-end configuration is used. With liquid coolant like water inside the cabinet, the coolant directly pumps water on the CPU. The coolant will have a water reservoir where the liquid is stored and delivered through pipes. High-end computers also need to have aesthetic look. Mr Aditya Prasad, CEO of Xrig, a start-up, said, “Customisation of computers is important. While we pioneer in manufacturing liquid coolant CPU in India, some customers wanted the CPU to match their interiors.”
Several companies like Cooler Master from Taiwan and Xrig from Kolkata are building customised computers. With the market leaders selling office desktops, start-ups are seeing a thrust area. Consequently, companies like Nvidia which are known for their graphics card, are tying up with these start-ups. It may be mentioned that Nvidia has a wide-range of products, including graphics cards, motherboards, and workstations for high-end computers.
