Google Pixel Watch may debut alongside Pixel 3 smartphones in October
There could be up to three versions of the Pixel Watch launched this year.
Over the past few weeks, there have been quite a few leaks about Google’s upcoming line-up of Pixel handsets, dubbed the Pixel 3. The last we heard about these smartphones was that the larger of the two handsets would feature a notch, a common design trend with flagship smartphones.
A report by 73Buzz claims that alongside the launch of the Google Pixel 3, Google could also be readying the launch of a new device, the Pixel Watch. It is reported that Google is working closely with Qualcomm and they will implement the latter’s new chipset in the Pixel Watch. which will power up the company’s new generation of smartwatches that aim to match the popularity of the Apple Watch.
Google and Qualcomm are working on a new design for a chipset that can be fitted in wearables. It is expected that the quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 3100 chipset that uses an ARM Cortex A7 architecture and Adreno 304 GPU will be used in the Pixel Watch. Qualcomm has confirmed that this chipset will be available in devices this fall and will feature LTE, GPS, WiFI and Bluetooth for connectivity while pedometer, heart rate sensors and detecting stress levels will aid in monitoring the health and fitness section.
The report goes on to say that a new setup with an integrated power management circuit in the processor called Blackghost will assist the system to save up battery life. With these implementations, it is expected that the Pixel Watch will run for more hours than any other smartwatch available on the market.
Also, the Google Pixel Watch may come with additional security features. This model may come with biometric sensors such as a fingerprint scanner or facial recognition. Although it is worth noting that plans for these features aren’t yet set in stone.
There could also be three versions of the Google Pixel Watch under the codenames Ling, Triton, and Sardine. There is no confirmation as to what features may be included in each model but each watch might be of a different size and may come with a cellular connection.
Evan Blass, a reputed tipster on Twitter has said, “Besides the Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, and second-gen Pixel Buds, a reliable source tells me — with high confidence — that Google’s fall hardware event will also introduce a Pixel-branded watch.”
So if this report is true, then it looks like Google will be going all out with the launch of their Pixel Watch.
