Far Cry 5, the game looks absolutely phenomenal.

Ubisoft has been hitting it out of the park with their latest games in recurring franchises, with Assassin’s Creed Origins being one of the best games in the series in a long time. However, the same cannot be said for the Far Cry series, with the last two games, Far Cry 4 and Far Cry Primal just feeling like DLCs to the critically acclaimed Far Cry 3.

Well, it would seem that third time’s the charm ought to apply to the much anticipated and hyped Far Cry 5, as it should be, the game looks absolutely phenomenal. Set in Rural USA, you get to experience the full power of the Second Amendment as you take on cultists and religious fanatics across the sprawling meadows, mountains and jungles. First things first, the map is huge, and the fact that Ubisoft is claiming that there will be no load times while traversing the whole thing is mighty impressive.

The game also looks and feels extremely immersive with dynamic events popping up allowing you to recruit the people you liberate in to your militia in your crusade to rid the game world of fanaticism. The thing that set Far Cry 3 apart and head and shoulders above the rest of the pack was the villain, Vas. He was the reason that kept players motivated to play the game through as the main motivation for us was the fantastic story and impeccable writing. The last two games have fallen way short of this benchmark and due to extremely similar mechanics, they felt rather dull. Far Cry 5 being set in Star Spangled awesome land however, allows for the developers to take some risks and make a truly great game however, with so many story elements to choose from considering the setting and make it one of the best games in the series.

One thing that needs to be kept in mind however, that we, the Far Cry fans have been waiting for an awesome game for almost close to two years now and won’t be satisfied with just eye candy. Yes, the game looks great, yes, it seems like they have introduced new gameplay mechanics and have tried to overhaul the Far Cry formula, but, I am still going to wait and see if they managed it as well as Assassin’s Creed Origins. If Ubisoft can take the old elements and tweak it to the point that they feel new, Far Cry 5 is going to be definite addition to my Uplay playlist ASAP, , otherwise I’ll wait for a sale to pick it up.
