Although Microsoft is struggling to attract any sort of investments from consumers, it still gets software support for the remaining few devices that Microsoft deems fit for running the next Windows update.

Over the past few days, the media is adrift with articles claiming the demise of the Windows Mobile and negligible interest from consumers. While the former claim is confirmed, the latter may not be true. Therefore, it would be contrasting to say that the Windows Mobile platform is getting people’s attention again.

According to a research by NetMarketResearch, the market share for windows Mobiles has marginally increased from 1.33 percent in March to 1.59 percent in April. As usual, Android leads the market with 65.19 percent followed by iOS trailing at 31.06 percent.

Although Microsoft is struggling to attract any sort of investments from consumers, it still gets software support for the remaining few devices that Microsoft deems fit for running the next Windows update. The marginal increase in the market share for Windows mobile devices may be due to the following reasons:

  1. Many consumers could be bored of the choices offered by the dominant operating systems on offer – Android and iOS.
  2. Maybe consumers were interested in the new Creators Update for Windows 10 mobile. The Creators Update brings the 3D version of Paint to the Windows Mobile platform.

Whatever maybe the reason, if Microsoft has even the slightest of intentions to gain some traction in the smartphone market, they have to do miracles. Either they can make the Windows Mobile platform compatible with Android apps or put some enterprise-oriented functionality with the next Windows Mobile update.
