KTR wanted a start-up to make RTA m-Wallet: Rudra Teja
The brain behind the app talk about it's popularity and more.
RTA m-Wallet, a mobile app that allows users to store digital copies of driving licence, registration certificate and insurance, is a boon for those who worry about carrying physical copies or misplacing them.
Developed by a city start-up Radikal Tribe, the app, that was launched on Wednesday, has already been a huge hit with over one lakh downloads.
“After our proposal got selected, we were called for a meeting with the transport commissioner and joint-transport commissioner… they wanted to understand if it was possible to do a paperless transaction based on the hard copies that the Transport department has already issued. For this, we gave them a proposal with a solution. There was a lot of feedback and alterations and then came the final product. The process had started in January,” says 26-year-old Rudra Teja, COO of Radikal Tribe.
About complaints that insurance hasn’t been included in the app, Rudra said, “We have integrated insurance in a way that you only have to download your RC and your insurance is downloaded immediately.
“However, pollution certificate has not been integrated yet and we are working towards it. The fitness and permit certificates of the commercial vehicles are also downloaded automatically.” He adds, “However, there is a small lag in the update of insurance. The data for the renewals that happened in the last two months hasn’t been transferred to us.”
Akil Karthik, 27, CEO of the company says that this project will give them a huge boost and he “expects a lot of projects to come their way”.
Rudra adds, “IT minister K.T. Rama Rao said that he didn’t want to go with an established company but rather encourage a city start-up. He wanted the entire ecosystem to develop in Hyderabad.”
How safe is the information on the app? “You are not uploading your information on the app or my database. You just download what’s already available with the Telangana Transport department,” says Rudra.
On Saturday, RTA m-Wallet was ranked 58 on Playstore and 25 on iOS. “As of Saturday, we were ranked above Twitter and Skype. There is no Indian government app ranked above us, not even the Indian Railways or IRCTC,” informs Karthik.
