Kerala: Lad creates waves with five apps
13-year-old Yan Chummar started web developing at 8.
Thiruvananthapuram: Yan Chummar is only 13, but is busy attending tech conclaves and rubbing shoulders with IT honchos. An eighth standard student of Marian Senior Secondary School, Kottayam, he has already developed five apps –My Kottayam, Kerala Today, Tripmaker, Healthmaker and Learnate on Android platform which are available on Google Playstore.
Son of Sanal Mathew, who runs a distribution network of food products, and Sindhu Sunny, an interior designer, Yan has started Zuo Developers, a start-up focused on bringing advanced and innovative technological solutions to society through mobile apps and other platforms.
Yan recalled that when he was eight, he had developed a website with the help of his cousin Abin who is now working in a private medical college as a network specialist.
“Thanks to online tutorials, I could learn HTML, CSS, XML and Java without paying money. There is only a one-time fee of $25 for Android developer plan whereas for iOS operating system, I would have to pay $99 per year,” said Yan.
Recently, he attended the Dev Confluence meeting 2017 organised by UST Global at Technopark where over 250 software professionals from several IT participated.
Joe Hoyle, co-founder and chief technology officer of Human Made, a multinational company based at Derbyshire in UK, had gifted him his Mac book when the two met at a techno conclave held in Kochi recently.
Yan is keen to study in Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the US and wants to become an entrepreneur running a series of start-up companies.
