The scammers recreate a person's account using details from their original Facebook page's about' section, and begin adding the person's friends on Facebook.

A spam message-based malware on Facebook is believed to have affected 10,000 accounts in the past two days that dupes users into clicking on the link— affecting their computers with a Trojan to hijack vital parts.

According to a Russian researcher from Kaspersky lab, the link once clicked, would start the two-stage attack. In the second-stage, the Trojan would download and secretly install an extension in the user’s chrome browser, wherein it can hijack user’s Facebook username and password. However, the malware is only effective on the Window’s computer.

The research said that the malware protects itself by blacklisting the homepage of several security vendors.

After the alert, Facebook authorities are blocking these scams to ensure people a completely safe experience on the social networking site. Apart from it, Google has also removed the rogue extension from its Chrome Web Store.
