Symantec's latest Wi-Fi router can protect your smart home devices too

Software developer Symantec recently announced the launch of its Norton Core Wi-Fi router. What’s interesting to note is that the company claims that the router can even protect your smart appliances against malware and viruses.

The new Norton Core Wi-Fi is designed for homes that are connected with smart devices like Amazon Echo, Google Home. The company points out how these smart appliances are exposed to vulnerabilities and how the Wi-Fi router will protect them against malware and viruses.

 "We've all seen the high-profile attacks in recent months and know that hackers are now exploiting an array of connected devices as a new means to access personal and financial information," Fran Rosch, executive vice president of Symantec's consumer business unit, was quoted as saying in the release.

The router is said to secure devices via data encryption, secure DNS and automatic security updates. Norton Core supports Wave 2 Wi-Fi and is powered by a 1.7GHz dual-core processor. Users can control the router using the app which will deliver updates regarding threats or suspicious activities.

The newly launched Wi-Fi router is available for pre-order at a starting price of $200 (approximately Rs 13,600) and is expected to start shipping in US soon. The Wi-Fi router will be available in two colour options – Titanium Gold and Granite Grey.
