This Google app can translate spoken words for the hearing impaired in real-time

As per the World Health Organisation (WHO), an estimated 900 million people will have hearing loss by the year 2025. Google wants to make the lives of such people easier with the use of technology through smartphone apps.

Google has partnered with Gallaudet University to introduce two new apps for Android designed to help deaf and hard-of-hearing people.

One of the apps, Live Transcribe, essentially translates spoken words in real-time. It transcribes the conversation to show you words on the phone as they are spoken. It currently supports 70 languages and dialects. The app will initially roll out to limited beta users worldwide. It will come pre-installed on the Google Pixel 3 devices.

Sound Amplifier makes audio clearer and easier to hear. You can augment and amplify the sounds in your environment. You can customise to enhance the required sound and reduce background noise. The app is available on the Play Store and compatible with Android Pie 9 and above. It comes pre-installed on Pixel 3.
