Steelbird's Airborne racing helmet review
The racing helmet ticks all the right boxes when it comes to safety
The number of bike riders has increased and as new transport infrastructure keeps on growing, safety should not take a backseat. There are a range of safety products like elbow protectors, knee pads, full body suits, front and back armor, boots, and finally the most important, a helmet. One of the most important aspects of bike riding, the helmet should not be flimsy and should be sturdy with optimum padding inside. Finally it should be ISO certified. One may argue that there are hundreds of helmets out there which are ISO certified, which is incorrect because the cheaper one only have an ISO sticker to go through.
Ticking all the right boxes, we have the Steelbird Off-Road Racing helmet here. The first impression this helmet gives is that it is actually a good looking helmet. Aesthetically speaking, the helmet could give the standard LS2s and MTs a run for their money. Built on its latest Airborne series platform, the helmet shell is made out of high impact ABS material with multi layer EPS (Thermocol) of high density and low density with air channels.
The helmet strap is a micro-metric buckle which is made adhering to European standards. Ventilation is good as the upper part uses a smart air booster system. There is also an air intake fixed in the chin guard, a frontal air intake, and top area with two rear extractors which recycle air inside the helmet.
One of the major features of this helmet is the neck protector padding made with multipore breathable padding.
The helmet delves into a snug fit design which means it is not going to wobble around when you are on the road or off it. The strap buckle is in place and keeps the inside of the helmet airy at all times. However, once you shut the visor, and close the air intakes, the outside noise drops considerably, meaning you can easily use communication radio devices without any problem like air noise.
Launched at a price tag of Rs 2,275, we think this helmet is a good bargain when compared to the likes of LS2, Vega, and MT Mugello helmets.
