Dexter robot to be centre of attraction at Kurukshetra

Chennai: Kurukshetra, an international techno-management festival conducted by Anna University, will commence this year from February 17.
Dexter robot will be one of the main attractions in this tech fest. It can welcome the chief guest and escort him to the stage.
Designed by seven students of the College of Engineering, Guindy, it greets with a handshake and waves good-bye too. The robot will recognize the chief guest by way of the image processing where the image will be fed earlier, students said.
The camera placed on the head not only captures the image and process but it also capable of live video streaming or storing the images whatever Dexter sees, they added.
Totally 13 research projects designed by 57 students will be exhibited at the festival. Apart from Dexter robot, Smart Auto and Wireless Accident Information System, a spy robot and footboard accidents prevention system will be displayed at the festival.
Some 20,000 students from across the country are expected to take part in the festival. Anna University, Registrar, S. Ganesan, while introducing the new research projects, urged students to do research on solar energy to make the equipment cheaper compared with the current cost.
From engineering to robotics this year totally 33 events will be conducted under seven categories from February 17 to 20.
