Hacker steals user details from educational website
Usernames, email passwords and addresses have been stolen from Edmodo.
Millions of usernames, passwords and email addresses have been stolen from the popular educational platform Edmodo. The confidential database has been nicked by a hacker and is apparently on sale on the dark web.
According to Motherboard, the passwords have been hashed with a robust crypt algorithm and a string of random characters. This means that hackers will have a hard time obtaining user's actual login credentials. It is claimed that not all of the stolen records include a user email address.
The stolen database of user credentials has been put up on sale in the dark web marketplace Hansa for a sum of around $1,000. The database is sold by a vendor known by the name of nclay.
Edmodo is home to 78 million members that include students, teachers and parents around the world. The company has promised to investigate the security threat and solve it before anyone gets affected.
