Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption II is just months away and Rockstar has released a new trailer, showing gameplay footage for the very first time. While teasers gave us an idea about the story and the art style, the game looks just as impressive in motion. From the draw distance to the visual effects and lighting, the image on screen was beautifully rendered.

You play as Arthur Morgan, a member of the Van der Linde gang. As you travel across the world, the gang members set up a camp as a base. Here you can interact with them to gain useful intel, bring food to boost morale or play games such as poker.

There are many ways of getting in and out of trouble in Red Dead Redemption II. The video showed how you can approach combat encounters or defuse them completely, and it seemed like there can be many different outcomes to each scenario. You choose whether to escalate the fight or make peace, and your actions in the world will have an effect on how these characters respond to you.

Melee combat looked intense, as Arthur struggled to gain the upper hand. In this case, he had multiple options to threaten the enemy, keeping beating on him or choke him out. Similarly, gunplay will be enhanced with unique characteristics for your weapons and realistic recoil, but the shooting has always been the worst part of Rockstar games and I will remain sceptical until I can play it.

Arthur will develop a deep relationship with his horse over time, which will make them easier to control. This will again depend upon your actions throughout the game. You can otherwise use them to carry animals for food, resources and extra weapons.

Red Dead Redemption II is filled with wildlife for you to hunt for money or to help feed the camp. If you manage to only wound an animal, you will have to track it down before collecting your prize.

Rockstar Games excel in world design, and that detail can be seen throughout the game. While we are yet to see a brand new feature that will define the genre or set this title apart, there will be another video coming up that will highlight the mission design and open world activities. Still, I am extremely pleased with what Rockstar has shown of Red Dead Redemption II.
