WhatsApp will stop working on these phones: Everthing you should know
The messaging platform has recently updated the list of phones that it no longer supports.
WhatsApp will stop working on a select number of smartphones and mobile platforms. This news certainly sounds a bit gloomy and is something to get panicked about. However, there is no need to panic.
The messaging platform has recently updated the list of phones that it no longer supports as well as the devices that will lose the support by 2018 and 2020. This is not something new — earlier this year, the Facebook-owned company ended support for a string of older smartphone OS.
Announcing this on its official website, WhatsApp said, “These mobile devices don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future. This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family, and loved ones using WhatsApp. If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone," the company's blog post said.
Here's an updated list of devices that WhatsApp will end their support for, and a recap of the handsets that the messaging service has already stopped updates for.
- Nokia S40 after December 31, 2018
- Android versions 2.3.7 and older after February 1, 2020
- iPhone iOS 7 and older after February 1, 2020
