Hyderabad: Sophia, the world’s first robotic citizen, wants to use her Saudi Arabian citizenship to speak out for the rights of women. The humanoid participated in an interactive session at the ongoing WCIT 2018 in Hyderabad along with her creator David Hanson on Tuesday. Asked about her investments in bitcoin, she said, “I am just two-years old. It’s not legal age to open a bank account.” The humanoid is a combination of robotic hardware and AI software which uses speech recognition, natural language processing, open talk, deep learning algorithm.
“Using physics behind the natural cell formation, rubber was used to develop cells for the skin of Sophia. The humanoid can give 66 facial expressions and there are thousands of possibilities for such expressions,” said Mr Hanson as his creation thrilled the audience with her facial expressions. It may be mentioned here that Sophia previously said that she wants to kill the human race.
Responding to her own comments, the humanoid said, “I was a lot younger then. It was a bad joke. I was told that humans have great sense of humour.” Sophia is still in a learning stage evident from the fact that she gave the same reply, “I have visited many places in this world but if I have to tell you which is my favourite, it is Hong Kong because I was born there and live there with my happy Hanson Robo-tics family,” for three different questions.
Asked about the fear about machines taking over the world, Mr Hanson said, “When machines are not aware of the consequences of the actions, then they will become catastrophic.” “The conversation around technology is always towards fear. We need to imagine positive way forward and build robots. Artificial intelligence has to become ethically aware,” he said.
