Skype to stop working on some smartphones; which phone do you have?
Microsoft announced that Skype will see an end of support with no more updates on its app.
Skype has become an essential internet communication tool for many people around the world. Families, friends, students, colleagues, and even offices go beyond the normal to learn and communicate in new ways and colleagues get to work from virtually anywhere. However, there will be a slight change from Microsoft with regards to Skype.
Microsoft has confirmed that Skype will no longer be updated for smartphones working on older operating systems. The affected smartphones will be Windows Phone, Android and iPhone, which will also extend to the respective tablets. The date for end of support on the said platforms will be October 2016 for certain operating systems.
Microsoft has announced that they will no longer update Skype for older operating system platforms, which include Mac, Windows, and smartphones too. Below are the operating systems that will be supported:
Android v4.0.3 and above.
Windows Phone 10 and above.
iOS 8 and above.
Linux: Ubuntu 10.0.4+, Debian 6.0+, Fedora 16+, OpenSUSE 12.1+,
Windows Desktop: Windows Vista and above, provided service packs are up to date.
