Android gets a lighter LinkedIn app
As the name suggests, the new app will consume lesser data and will work in slower network conditions.
India is one of the largest IT markets in the world which generates a substantial revenue for the bigger names of the industry. Therefore, it has been the focus for all the well-known names from the technology industry. LinkedIn, one of the most popular professional networking websites prefers to adjust its business models keeping in mind the infrastructure conditions of the country. They launched the LinkedIn Lite website last year for attracting more members from the tier 2 and tier 3 cities of India to its professional network. Now, they have gone ahead and released an app version of the same.
Called the LinkedIn Lite app, it has been designed keeping in mind the semi-urban infrastructure of the majority of India. The app takes less than 1MB in storage and will work in slower network conditions, which also makes it easier to consume lesser data than its full version. The app has only been rolled out for the Android platform as the majority of the target consumers use Android smartphones in tier 2 and tier 3 cities.
“If you look at the unique hitting our mobile website, it has doubled in the last six months and the engagement on the platform has gone (up) 3X in the past six months. LinkedIn Lite android app is the next step in this evolution of making LinkedIn more accessible all over India,” Akshay Kothari, LinkedIn India Head, said in an interview. The app is available to download from the Google PlayStore.
