Calicut University's software makes certificate issuance faster
New system ensures security features to prevent fake certificates by insiders.
Kozhikode: Certificate issuing will not be time-consuming anymore in Calicut University. The computer centre of the state's largest varsity has developed a new software that would substantially reduce the time taken for the process at present till the certificates get printed.
The software also has additional security features preventing insiders generating fake ones. The university plans to deploy the software, which will also save printouts for cross-checking marks, in January.
The university issues 1.5 to 2 lakh certificates every year on an average. Three to four printouts of each are taken to cross-check marks and other details, before the final print is taken as a certificate is verified manually by the assistant, section officer, assistant registrar and the hologram section before it is sent to the vice-chancellor’s office for digital signature.
The centre director V. T. Madhu said the university was planning to use software for BSc students on a pilot basis. “Later we will extend the application to all other branches. Once the software implemented, all applications for certificates will be processed through online which would reduce time and paper,” he told DC.
"The security features will help remove the present disadvantages where anyone who can access the software could create a fake certificate. The new software has no such loopholes and will ensure secrecy,” he said.
