WhatsApp's beta version for Android enables video streaming feature
Recently the company also added fully encrypted video calling to its messaging app.
Soon after rolling out the video calling feature for the users, WhatsApp seems to be gearing up to release a video streaming feature for the app. The feature will allow user to watch a shared video without having to download it. It is available for the WhatsApp beta version for Android.
WhatsApp has also replaced the download button with the play button. The feature is similar to online video streaming website Youtube which allows users to play the video while it is still buffering.
Recently the company also added fully encrypted video calling to its messaging app. WhatsApp, which boasts more than a billion users worldwide, adopted end-to-end encryption early this year, making it technically impossible for the company or government authorities to read messages or listen to calls.
The video calling service thus provide another means for people to communicate without fear of eavesdropping though WhatsApp does retain other data such as an individual's list of contacts.
