British automotive manufacturer McLaren has announced a purely electric vehicle, McLaren P1 especially designed for customers under the age of six.

The latest innovation ‘is the first officially licensed product from McLaren Automative to enter the growing market segment is the most compact car to wear the McLaren badge,’ read the McLaren website.

What’s incredible to note is that the automobile reportedly speeds from 0 to 3 mph (4.9 km/h) in merely two seconds.

While most characteristics in the former are much similar to its larger version namely McLaren F1; there are two important areas that they differ in. Firstly, the McLaren P1 comes with a central driving position. Secondly, the driver will be able to experience an optional open-top vehicle.

The automobile can come to life via a one-button stop/start function, which automatically activates the lights and air-conditioning unit of the system. An MP3 player and audio system is already pre-programmed with the latest popular nursery rhymes. It also features a reverse gear in addition to its three-speed, forward transmission.

The McLaren P1 will only be available in one colour i.e. Volcano Yellow. The drivers should ideally be between three to six years of age, as per regulations. The mini car will be available from October 1 in select McLaren Automative retailers around the world and will be priced at £375.00, followed by recognised global toy retailers.
