MCEME's new AI system to identify sleepy drivers

Hyderabad: An AI-based accident prevention system, developed at a cost of Rs 12,000, garnered public attention at the AI for Military seminar, as it could prevent accidents that take place due to drivers dozing at the wheel.

The device, developed by the Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME) of the Indian Army at Secunderabad, triggers an alarm the moment the driver falls asleep.

It has been tested on TSRTC and APSRTC vehicles, giving positive results.

Lt. Col. Aditya Bhosale of the MCEME said that the device is rugged, small, customised and power efficient. “It can be installed in the cabin without affecting the driver’s view. It has a loud buzzer to alert the driver and also superiors through an email.”

Another interesting MCEME creation was a CCTV-based drone detection system to identify drones in a particular area and alert officials for further action. It can detect humans through thermal imagery at border areas and also animals, irrespective of dense tree cover, officials said.
