Come this fall, Apple will be releasing its 10th generation iPhone model slated to be called iPhone 8 with a host of ground breaking features (we hope!). But as the iPhone turns ten, we also get a glimpse of the early prototypes which the company had used to test various features at launch.

This photo published by previous human interface manager for Apple, Ken Kocienda has disclosed two prototypes which Cupertino internally called Wallabies.

The devices in the pictures do not look like the iPhone because they are covered in protective cases. This could be to hide the actual design of the phones. Apple has been known for its CIA-like secrecy regarding its products, though in the last few years, more and more leaks have revealed its smartphones ahead of the public launch.

The iPhone 8 has a similar sort. Expected to debut in September, the 8 is slated to come with a new design featuring an OLED display with narrow bezels, wireless charging, and face recognition cameras. Leaks have already shown its design, despite Apple’s struggle to prevent leaks.

On the prototypes, Kocienda has explained that it was used to create the software keyboard which was available on the first iPhone. Both feature a home button, which is however touted to be removed from the iPhone 8, instead it will feature a fingerprint sensor under the display.

The iPhone 7s and 7s Plus will however keep featuring the home button, given they are successors to the current generation models. Apple has been planning some upgrades to this model, for example the wireless charging which could become the top-feature on all iPhone models.

But then, these are all rumors based on existing leaks and information coming from unofficial sources, so it remains to be seen if they are accurate or not.
