Don't get your hopes too high yet. This is still a leak and therefore, has a greater chance of being an inaccurate one.

If there has even been an iPhone in the recent times that has drawn a considerable attention to itself after the 2017 iPhone X, then it has to be the iPhone SE 2. The rumoured successor to the 2016 iPhone SE is expected to be unveiled at the WWDC slate to be held in June. While there’s no hint from Apple towards the device, the world of leaks and rumours is going crazy with speculations, suggesting various form factors of the iPhone that is expected to be the cheapest one in Apple’s portfolio. While a recent leak suggested a recycled iPhone SE design with a glass rear panel and no headphone jack, OnLeaks’ Steve H has got his hands on 3D CAD renders of the SE 2 that suggests a completely different story.

The iPhone SE 2 shown in the leaks is a completely different device carrying the latest in technology from Apple’s stables, at least on the outside. Unearthed by Tiger Mobiles, the SE 2 is shown sporting familiar classic iPhone design introduced by the iPhone 5. The device is retaining the small 4-inch form factor, with a metallic rear panel and a glass inserts on the top and bottom edges to aid antenna reception. This completely negates the rumours of Apple including a glass rear panel on the iPhone SE 2 to aid wireless charging.

However, the render falls in line with the idea of the baby iPhone omitting the 3.5mm headphone jack. The renders don’t document the existence of the headphone jack on the SE 2. With these many leaks pointing at a no headphone jack, it seems that Apple could be finally giving up on the old analogue audio output port for all of its 2018 iPhone models.

However, the biggest change that this leak suggests takes us back to the initial days of the iPhone SE 2’s leak cycle — there’s a fullscreen display with FaceID. Yes, the renders show the lack of a TouchID sensor or a Home button. Instead, the SE 2 is shown having a fullscreen display with narrow bezels to the sides and an iPhone X-like notch, showing the earpiece. While the others sensors aren’t visible, the lack of TouchID suggests that FaceID is there on its own to handle security.

Don’t get your hopes too high yet. This is still a leak and therefore, has a greater chance of being an inaccurate one. Even Steve H says he is unsure about the authenticity of the renders. However, OnLeaks’ renders in the past have mostly depicted an accurate render of smartphones, which makes us hopeful of Apple making this prototype unit the iPhone SE 2. And, if this is the SE 2, Apple will probably cut down on costs by using an A10 chip, an older camera sensor and an LCD panel to keep the price tag appealing to budget smartphone seekers.
