Unlike Samsung, Huawei might be bringing their device that supports other docks and connectors as well.

Samsung seems to have inspired Huawei by introducing its ‘Phone as your PC’ concept. Huawei is expected to introduce the DeX-like feature with its Mate 10 smartphone.

The technology allows users to connect their smartphone to a peripheral and use it on a desktop. Unlike Samsung, Huawei might be bringing their device that supports other docks and connectors as well.

The concept of turning a smartphone into a regular desktop isn’t something new. The feature was first seen on the not so known Motorola Atrix phone and ‘lapdock’ combo in 2011. The torch was then carried by industry giants such as Microsoft (Continuum) and Ubuntu makers Canonical (Convergence). The latest entrant is Samsung with its DeX which is by far the most intuitive dock so far. The DeX is only compatible with Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+ and the recently launched Galaxy Note 8. Also the devices work with authentic DeX dock powered from a wall socket.

Huawei’s tech is rumoured to be compatible with existing docks, some of which might be more portable than others, which might attract a lot of users.

The system is also said to feature DisplayPort, which might not be as common as HDMI. All rumours will be put to rest when Huawei unveils its ‘Real AI’ Mate 10 smartphone.
