Facebook officially denies using microphone to spy on conversations
Facebook had been rumoured to be listening to your conversations for ad manipulation.
Facebook had recently been in the news for eavesdropping on users’ conversations in order to manipulate advertisements shown in the app. According to reports, Facebook’s smartphone app was said to be listening to user conversations via the smartphone’s microphone.
However, Facebook has rubbished the claims and has officially released a statement stating that ‘Facebook does not use your phone’s microphone to inform ads or to change what you see in News Feed.’
The official statement released by Facebook also mentions that the app will only use the smartphone’s microphone if the user is allowing it and giving the app the required permissions to do so. The microphone will only be used for recording videos and audio for status updates.
