Global tech giants are making strides to reach the next level on the camera front. According to industry analysts popular smartphone makers are set to release flagship smartphones equipped with high-end cameras in the second half of the year, shifting focus to dual lenses instead of megapixles, reported South Korean news agency Yonhap.

“While smartphone initially focused on improving megapixels, the focus is moving towards editing software, such as the Optical Image Stabilisation, and the dual-lens features,” industry insiders told Yonhap. “The companies are expected to compete over lens materials in the future,” they revealed.

This year, Samsung announced the Galaxy Note 8 with two 12MP sensors on the rear, one featuring a wide-angle lens, while the other sporting a telephoto lens. The company distinguished its dual camera set up with the new Live Focus feature, allowing users to control the field’s depth while shooting and blur out background before and after a shot is taken.

A month later, another S. Korea-based tech giant LG launched its flagship smartphone – V30, housing a dual camera set-up too, but with an aperture of F1.6 ever included in any smartphone.

In the set-up LG V30 adopted Crystal Clear Lens – a wide-angle and a general lens with resolution of 13MP and 16MP, respectively.

And now, after debuting dual-lens camera on the iPhone 7 Plus, Apple is set to bring the feature on new iPhones as well. The phone is also expected to adopt 3-D facial recognition technology for unlocking the device.  The resolution for the new iPhone is estimated at 12MPs.
