OnePlus will un-notch' the OP6 for angry fans
The company has confirmed that they will be masking the notch with a software update after the phone's release.
A few days ago, when OnePlus started unveiling details about its upcoming smartphone one at a time, they faced a lot of criticism from the OnePlus community for making the display notch standard. The social media has since then pleaded OnePlus to get rid of the display notch before they release it in the market. Despite the company’s top officials reaching out to people through detailed explanations, the angry fans just can’t digest the presence of the notch. OnePlus now has a solution to it.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has taken it to the forum to express his concern about the fans’ backlash and therefore has promised to roll out a software-based black-out option for the OnePlus 6. The smartphone will launch with the display notch but users will be able to mask the notch by disabling the display area around the notch, which would give an impression of the notch being absent from the display. However, there’s a twist in OnePlus’ solution.
Since OnePlus has been continuously stressing on utilising the display area more efficiently, the company will only make the background of the status bar instead of disabling the area completely. The blacked-out area will display the notification icons and the time. Therefore, for the notch-haters, they can only reduce the impression of the availability of the notch.
Since OnePlus says that the black-out feature will help to diminish the notch’s presence, we assume that the AMOLED display will be retained on the OnePlus 6 as these panels can render natural black tones. Additionally, if OnePlus is planning to roll out this feature after the launch, it seems that they will be unveiling it pretty soon. How soon? Stay tuned for all the news related to the OnePlus 6.
