At the time when bezel-less flagships are becoming a norm in the smartphone industry, Google is reportedly planning to retain thick bezels for its forthcoming Google Pixel 2 smartphones.

The leaked renders of the Pixel 2 XL suggest that the company has managed to reduce the top and bottom bezels making room for a huge 2:1 OLED panel. Unfortunately, the smaller variant might not receive the same treatment.

VentureBeat was able to obtain an image of the upcoming Pixel successor that shows the Pixel 2 won’t get features to compete with the latest flagships. The device resembles a lot from its predecessor, but in an era of futuristic looking smartphones, the Pixel 2 might look like an outdated device.

The rear panel shows no changes which means the device will not boast a dual camera setup. Again, the dual camera has been adopted by giants like Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi and LG. Although, the Pixel smartphones come with a superior camera, but it would still be disappointing that Google is yet to have a device with a dual camera setup.

The Pixel 2 might have a harder time this year staying relevant in a market dominated by phones that may cost a bit more but offer the exceptional design that it lacks.
