Samsung's J series to get Infinity Display, 4 new models expected
Two new models with Infinity display will be joining the Galaxy J series whereas the other two could become a part of the A series.
The midrange smartphone market has seen a lot of action in the recent times, especially with several new players introducing offerings with almost-stock Android interface and large 18:9 displays. Samsung, however, hasn’t been aggressive with its offerings in the recent times, especially with high-selling Galaxy J series yet to adopt modern smartphone trends. It looks like that this is about to change as a report from industry insiders has suggested that Samsung is bringing four new models to the Indian market with Infinity Display, two of which are expected to be a part of the J series.
According to rumours from industry insiders, Samsung is prepping to release up to four smartphones with Infinity Display, two of which will be made a part of the midrange Galaxy J series. The Infinity Display uses an 18:9 AMOLED panel and was first seen on 2017’s Galaxy S8. These new devices will be also be featuring India-specific additions such as S Bike Mode, Ultra Data Saving (UDS) mode and Turbo Speed Technology. The smartphones are expected to launch pretty soon, with some industry insiders hinting at a May 21 launch date.
It’s expected that Samsung will launch its popular Galaxy J7 (2018) and the Galaxy J5 (2018) models with the new Infinity Display. The Galaxy J7 (2018) could sport a bigger 6-inch display, a new dual camera setup like the recently launched Galaxy J7 Duo and ship with Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box. Apart from the new J series models, Samsung is also expected to unveil the new Galaxy A6 and A6+ for the Indian market, considering these models were the only two models launched recently in the international market.
The upcoming new models in the J series could pose serious competition to Xiaomi’s high-selling Redmi Note series and the new entries from several other manufacturers such as ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 and Nokia 6 (2018).
