New iPhone models will be launched as iPhone 8, iPhone X, leaks suggest

The next week will see the launch of the super flagship of this year as new iPhones will be unveiled as a part of a press conference at the Apple Park. Although the date September 12 has been confirmed, very little has been said about the name of the devices.

As expected, the rumor mill is full of contradictory information regarding the way the new iPhone models could be called, including various names like iPhone 8, iPhone X, and iPhone Edition. However, if these rumors are true, Apple could launch an anniversary model alongside what everyone has called the iPhone 7s and the iPhone 7s Plus, which are two more subtly-improved devices which share the look of the existing iPhone 7 generation.

Now, a leaked final build of iOS 11 may finally put an end to all the mystery, confirming the name of the devices which will go live within the next week.

Apple’s 2017 lineup will consist of three models, namely the iPhone 8, the iPhone 8 Plus, and the iPhone X. The iPhone 8 will be the 4.7-inch device that will serve as a refresh of the iPhone 7, while the iPhone 8 Plus will be the facelifted iPhone 7 Plus. Lastly, the iPhone X will be the eagerly anticipated 10th anniversary model that’s generating all the excitement right now.

In other words, Apple will completely skip the iPhone 7s series, and it more or less makes sense. First of all, launching the anniversary model as iPhone 8 and marketing the other 2 devices as part of the 7s lineup would certainly have a big impact on sales, so Apple made a compromise and jumped straight to a whole new generation to avoid any confusion.
