Smartphone maker Wileyfox is offering consumers the chance to buy their devices at a cheaper price as a part of a program that puts ads on the lock screens in exchange of the discounts.

The new program dubbed as the Add-X comes in the form of an add-on that runs on devices enrolled for the program and will enable up to 43 per cent discounts.

The company believes that showing ads on the lock screen won’t be disturbing in any way, as other details such as time, date and notifications or anything else would still be present on the lock screen.

Also the company guarantees that this won’t affect the performance of the device or impact on data, as it uses only up to 20MB per month. There won’t be any adult content or money lending companies, and only users above 18 years will get to see liquor ads.

“Protecting customer data is a priority. No customer data is shared with any advertisers or other parties. Customer profiling data is only used to tailor the customer experience. If a consumer swipes left to engage with the ad or offer, that interaction is with the brand directly, so the consumer can choose how much data they want to share with the brand,” the firm says.

If you are planning to buy the device and then remove the ads, well you won’t be able to do that. The company will take care of everything with updates. However, if you still want to get rid of the ads, you will have to pay a $55 fee, after which Wileyfox will push an update to the device and the process will complete within few hours.

To be a part of the Add-X program, users can visit the company website. The offers will go live starting December 6.
