Mumbai: It’s not news that Apple iPhones do not have the best battery life. In order to keep the iPhones alive through the day, users do whatever little tricks and tips they know to keep it from dying. One of the most popular tricks is to constantly close the apps in the background. This has been a popular stratagem among iPhone users, and has been thought of as a good and effective practice. Until recently, when the Apple senior vice-president Craig Federighi, burst the myth!

An Apple customer recently put forth a query, whether closing iOS multitasking apps help extending the battery life of the iPhone, Federighi answered a straight no.

According to a 9To5 Mac report, the reason behind that is that these apps that show in the multitasking menu are either frozen in the RAM or not working at all, therefore having a negligible impact on battery life.

However, apps that do actually affect iPhone’s battery life are Location services, background music playback or downloads on the App Store.

Therefore, although force-quitting apps that are not in use is a good practice, it may not be serving the purpose you are expecting it to.
