New Samsung Galaxy S8 variant with Snapdragon 840 spotted online

A new Samsung phone with model number SM-G9600 has been spotted on benchmarking website Geekbench on July 12. The smartphone is tipped to be powered by Snapdragon 840 SoC paired with 4GB of RAM.

Known leakster Roland Quandt, the new smartphone might be dubbed as the Galaxy S8 ‘Lite’. The device will run on Android 7.1.2 Nougat OS. On single-core test of Geekbench, the SM-G9600 has scored 1782 points and on multi-core score, it has recorded a score of 4212 points.

The Snapdragon 840 falls in line with other models such as SD 630 and SD 660 that are the enhanced variants of the SD 625 and SD 652 processors. The Snapdragon 840 is an enhanced version of Snapdragon 820 chipset that powered several flagships last year. The leak also suggests that the new variant could be a cheaper version of the Galaxy S8 aimed towards the Chinese market.
