Sony to ditch its Xperia Home launcher for a new one

The new launcher might be based on the new Android P gesture controls, which appears to be development already, a report stated.

The Xperia XZ Premium is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835. It is no surprise that the mighty processor goes through routine tasks with a breeze.

Sony has announced axing of its Xperia Home launcher to build a new Android launcher. The company has stated it is putting the current Home launcher in the ‘maintence mode’ without scheduling any updates and has also announced its closing of Xperia Home beta community.

According to a report from xperiablog.net, the developers said, “a business decision has been taken that our current launcher, Xperia Home should enter maintenance phase”. So do not expect any more new features – the maintenance phase will continue for “as long as deemed necessary”

“The reason for discontinuing new feature development in the current Xperia Home Application is that we are developing a new Home Application," Sony's Xperia Home Open Beta Community Moderator Erika Prymus said in a post.

This suggests that the new Android launcher is already in the works and a new report also suggests that the upcoming new launcher has something to do with the new Android P Gestures.

With the new gesture-controlled launcher, we can expect some major changes in the displays (with or without the notch, as Android P supports both displays) in the future Xperia smartphones line-up. However, the launch date of this new launcher is yet to be known.
