At WWDC 2019, Apple announced the upcoming iOS 13 and with it, we get to see some of the biggest updates for the iPhone yet. However, as is the case with most major iOS releases, hidden deep within the software are clues pertaining to upcoming iPhone handsets and with iOS 13, the same rings true.

The biggest hint that’s arisen from iOS 13 is that the upcoming Apple iPhone 11 may switch to the industry standard of USB Type-C instead of its proprietary lightning connector. While it may be a huge blow for Apple financially since they charge a hefty premium for its MFi licensing it is about time the brand shifted to a Type-C connector on its iPhones since it already uses the same on its iPads and MacBooks.

This feature was proved when Apple user Raphael Mouton published a photograph on Twitter of the recovery screen on an iPhone that was running the developer beta of iOS 13. The image in question appears to be a Mac with the top of a cable and upon closer inspection; this isn’t a lightning cable but a Type-C connector. If this image is, in fact, a Type-C cable, then it appears that Apple has decided to swap out the lightning cable for the universally accepted Type-C.

Cnet reports that the biggest possibility here is that the image in question refers to a USB-C to lightning cable that’s being connected to a Mac and not a USB Type-C cable. In related news, Apple is believed to be bundling an 18W USB Type-C power adapter in the packing of the upcoming iPhone 11.

The other major leak in iOS 13 is that Apple plans on axing 3D Touch, a feature that was launched with the iPhone 6s and has been a staple on recent iPhone handsets apart from the iPhone XR. This feature was intended to help with navigation once Apple ditched the Home button. However, this feature hasn’t really taken off and it appears that Apple will be ditching this handy feature in the 2019 iPhone 11.

With the iPhone XR, Apple replaced 3D Touch with Haptic Touch in a bid to make space for a larger nearly bezel-less display. Even though it doesn’t come with all the bells and whistles of 3D Touch, Haptic Touch has proved to be an able substitute for users.

As of now, there is no certainty if Apple will indeed eliminate 3D Touch and more will be known at the iPhone 11 launch in September.

With further beta releases of iOS 13 due, there could be more leaks pertaining to the iPhone 11.
