You won't have to wait another year for a foldable phone: Huawei
Huawei is expected to unveil a flexible smartphone with an OLED display.
For the past few years, Samsung has been in the limelight for expectedly bringing a flexible smartphone. They had shown several concept devices at various consumer tech shows, with Lenovo following them with a concept of their own last year. While Samsung is expected to make the flexible smartphone commercial sometime next year, Huawei has surprised everyone by announcing a flexible smartphone for sure next year.
In an interview to a German publication Die Welt, Huawei’s CEO Richard Yu has confirmed that they will be launching a flexible smartphone next year. “We are already working on it. You will not even have to wait another year,” said the CEO. He said that the smartphone will have the potential to replace a personal computer. Nobody wants to rely on a smartphone because of a smaller display, which is why Huawei is determined to change that by offering a display large enough to be productive while easy to carry around due to its flexible form factor.
Since Huawei is confident of a launch date next year, it seems that the Chinese manufacturer could eventually beat Samsung at its own game. It was recently rumoured that Samsung is facing issues with its flexible display and could, therefore, delay it until next year. With Huawei promising a launch next year, they could be the first one to do that and add to their mantle of doing some of the industry’s first technologies (a triple camera setup on the Huawei P20 Pro).
