Xiaomi's bezel-less Mi MIX 2 to taste Android Oreo soon
The company will roll out a beta test for Android Oreo for the Mi MIX 2, official rollout to follow soon.
When it comes to Android updates, Xiaomi really likes to take its own sweet time, delivering the latest Android version to compatible smartphones a year after Google rolls it out for the market. Xiaomi has to work on the compatibility of a new Android version with their MIUI interface. However, the company has always given its flagship models a priority for beta test programs and the Mi MIX 2 is this year’s contender to welcome Android 8.0 to the world of MIUI.
Xiaomi has announced a closed beta test for users of the Mi MIX 2. Eligible users can enrol themselves for the beta test by 24th December 2017. Xiaomi will announce the selected number of beta testers by 27th December. The Oreo beta build is expected to arrive with bugs and issues.
Xiaomi announced the beta build for Android Nougat last year for the Mi 5 flagship. The Nougat beta program brought Android 7.0 along with MIUI 8. With the Mi MIX 2, Xiaomi is expected to deliver Android Oreo with the company’s latest MIUI 9 on top. However, most of Android Oreo’s features are a part of MIUI 9’s global build. Expect Xiaomi to deliver the global build of the Oreo-based MIUI 9 in early 2018.
The Mi MIX 2 is currently available for Rs 35,999 and comes with a 5.9-inch narrow-bezel display, a Snapdragon 835 chipset, 6GB of RAM and a 12MP rear camera. You can check out our review of the Mi MIX 2 here.
