Xiaomi Mi 5 breaks too easily during a durability test
Xiaomi Mi 5, the flagship Chinese smartphone showed signs of weakness in a bend test.
It is a shame to see many people putting smartphones through tests that are not actually practical. Many testers, reviewers and critics put newly launched smartphones through a series of brutal tests such as flames, scratch, drop, drown and bends. Though it is nice to know the smartphones durability, it is not always the case that people would put their phones through it. Imagine you spending on a fair amount of money on a smartphone that now contains your personal important data on it. Would you actually drop it in water? Scratch it with sharp objects? Or even bend it to an extent that it breaks? While we admit that you can accidentally scratch or drown your smartphone, you would not burn it or bend it at any given point of time. At least as long as it is not in the hands of your angry girlfriend, wife or parent. Well, it is always nice to know what would happen if the phone you own, or will own, goes through any of these accidental tortures. This also proves that the phone you buy is durable enough to withstand more than what it is built for. At least you would have peace of mind that the phone can take the stress of everyday handling.
A YouTube video posted by Jerry shows the Xiaomi Mi 5 put through a similar test to check the handset’s durability. Though the device was not put through a water test, or dropped, its display was scratched and burned and finally it was bent. While the Mi 5 went through the scratch and flame test with flying colours, the device was weak and shamefully failed the bend test. The Mi 5, though built with an aluminum alloy frame, was very easily bend with bare hands and cracked immediately. The device’s build showed that the Mi 5 was built with a thin alloy (which hugely saves on manufacturing costs) and the test revealed that it broke on the lines of the battery where the frame was the thinnest. So if you plan on buying a Mi 5 and your lifestyle activity could break the device, we suggest you look for a highly durable smartphone.
