Redmi 7 launched in India at Rs 7,999

The Xiaomi handset offers a lot of upgrades over its predecessor, the Redmi 6.

At the Redmi Y3 event held in Delhi, Xiaomi also took the wraps off the Redmi 7, a budget model that comes with a starting price of Rs 7,999. The handset comes in two configurations — 2GB/32GB and 3GB/32GB with the higher spec’d sibling priced at Rs 8,999. The Redmi 7 will go on sale on April 29, a day ahead of the Redmi Y3 launch.

The Redmi 7 offers substantial upgrades over the Redmi 6 that was launched last year and it boasts a beautiful gradient design which the brand has termed as Aura Smoke. Upon launch, the handset will be available in three colour options — Eclipse Black, Comet Blue and Lunar Red. Unlike the Redmi 6, the new Redmi 7 boasts a design trend that’s very 2019.

Like the Redmi Y3 and the Redmi Note 7 series, the Redmi 7 features the Dot Notch display and slim bezels on three sides. The rear features the dual-camera setup and a fingerprint scanner. The notch plays home to the 8MP front-facing camera while the rear shooters comprise of a 12MP shooter and a 2MP secondary sensor. The front-facing camera features an AI portrait mode, AI Beatify mode 4.0 and Palm shutter.

The Redmi 7 comes with a 6.26-inch display and a resolution of 720 x 1520 and a 19:9 ratio. The front of the handset is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. The Redmi 7 features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 SoC and paired with a maximum of 3GB and 32GB of onboard storage. The available storage can be expanded upon by using a microSD card up to 512GB. The handset, like the Redmi Y3, it comes with a p2i coating that helps in protecting the handset against water and dust.

The Redmi 7 runs on MiUI 10 that’s built on Android 9 Pie and it features a large 4000mAh battery.
