Huawei has partnered with the latter to build powerful smartphone cameras that could defeat the purpose of carrying around a DSLR.

The ongoing, biggest camera show in Japan, marked a significant announcement by Chinese smartphone giant Huawei and camera lens big daddy Leica. Huawei has partnered with the latter to build powerful smartphone cameras that could defeat the purpose of carrying around a DSLR.

The Verge reported that the partnership between the legendary German camera manufacturer Leica and Huawei has not yet thrown any light about what form the partnership will be. Leica’s primary tech collaborator has always been Panasonic where Panasonic’s cameras have been marked with a red dot (representing Leica) and are sold for higher prices. Leica is considered as a luxury brand and is said to have a particular appeal for Huawei in China.

If the partnership is big, this could be very profitable for both companies, where Leica concentrates on mobile photography and Huawei, being a big name in China, can ring the bells globally.
