Paypal to stop app support for Windows phones, Blackberry
Paypal is stopping support for Blackberry, Fire phone, and Windows phones from June 30.
In a recent post, Paypal has announced that it will be discontinuing support of its upgraded version 6.0 app on Windows phone, Amazon’s Fire phone and Blackberry devices, starting June 30.
According to the post, the new version of the app will only support Android devices with OS 4.3 or greater and Apple devices running on iOS 8.1 or higher.
However, it also said that it is stopping support for Blackberry, Fire phone, and Windows phones from June 30.
Customers using these devices will still be able to access through its website using internet explorer or Microsoft Edge browser. Even Outlook.com users will be able to use the PayPal add-in to send money directly from their inbox.
Additionally, Blackberry users can also continue to use the BBM app to send peer-to-peer payments via PayPal.
Paypal’s Global VP Joanna Lambert said in the post: “It was a difficult decision to no longer support the PayPal app on these mobile platforms, but we believe it’s the right thing to ensure we are investing our resources in creating the very best experiences for our customers.”
She apologised for any inconvenience due to the decision but also said that the decision was a move to keep updated to offer best smartphone experiences.
“As the digital payments landscape evolves, we will continue to innovate and make enhancements to PayPal’s mobile experiences to give our customers the best possible ways to manage and move their money,” she added.
Both Windows phones and Blackberry handsets are going through an extremely rough phase and it seems that both companies might slowly put an end to their mobile businesses.
