Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday introduced the new Aadhaar app with Face ID for secure digital verification and QR-based data sharing, while ensuring privacy.
In a post on X, the Union Minister said that the new Aadhaar app allows digital verification, eliminating the need to carry a physical card or its photocopy.
The Minister mentioned that the new Aadhaar app is currently in its beta testing phase. “Now, with just a tap, users can share only the necessary data, giving them complete control over their personal information – New Aadhaar App (in beta testing phase),” he wrote on X.
Users simply need to scan the QR code provided by a retailer or shopkeeper, and they can authenticate using Face ID or a fingerprint scanner.
“Aadhaar verification becomes as simple as making a UPI payment. Users can now digitally verify and share their Aadhaar details while ensuring their privacy,” he added.
The new Aadhaar app enables identity verification at hotels, shops, and during travel. The X post stated that the app is secure and information is shared only with user consent, making it 100 per cent digital and secure.
The Union Minister further emphasized that the new Aadhaar app ensures stronger privacy, prevents misuse or data leaks, and protects against forgery or tampering.

UIDAI, in a statement, said that a major innovation in the app is the integration of Aadhaar Face Authentication, which is witnessing rapid adoption across sectors and has recorded over 15 crore transactions per month.

“This app is an early adopters’ release for a small group of users, including all the registered participants of this Aadhaar Samvaad event. Based on the feedback received from users and ecosystem partners, UIDAI will soon make it accessible to all,” the statement said.

The new Aadhaar app will soon be available on both Android and iOS devices.
