YouTube will begin cracking down on clickbaits, starting in India. They will remove videos whose titles or thumbnails promise viewers something that the video does not deliver.
According to YouTube’s blogspot, India will be the first country to experience the rollout, followed by other countries over the coming months, as reported by The Verge.
YouTube said that the new policy will tackle “egregious” clickbait, especially on the content that focuses on breaking news or current events. For instance, a video title proclaiming “the president resigned!” when the video doesn’t discuss the president’s resignation, or a thumbnail that claims “top political news” on a video that lacks any news coverage, such videos will be removed by the social media platform.
The Company said that the policy rollout will ensure creators have time to adjust to the new rules.
Initially, YouTube will remove content which violates the policy without issuing a strike to creators. “And as we continue to educate creators, our enforcement efforts will prioritize new video uploads moving forward,” said Youtube.
