Yadlapalli Pranjala in ITF semifinals

She was the only Indian to advance to the semifinals.

Hyderabad: Promising Hyderabad tennis player Yadlapalli Pranjala on Thursday was the only Indian to advance to the semifinals of the Aurangabad Open women’s ITF tennis championships being played in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.

In the quarterfinals, Pranjala — a qualifier — defeated World No.344 from France, the sevent-seeded Lou Brouleau, in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. In the semifinals, Pranjala will run into second seed from Slovakia Tadeja Majeric, who defeated India’s fifth seed Ankita Raina 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-2.  In another quarterfinal, Prerna Bhambri lost to Russia’s Ekaterina Yashina 6-7 (3), 3-6.
