Anybody who closely observes the Indian mass media space can clearly see how it has shaped a consumerist culture that not only thrives on sensationalism but has also become morally apathetic. Actress Kalki Koechlin’s poetry performance is a scathing comment against mass media’s merciless exploitation of the Indian woman.

The video, titled The Printing Machine, features her commenting on the insensitive news reportage of the shockingly brutal violence faced by women in India that has readers jumping from one juicy headline to the next. In the same breath, she also complains about how the beauty advertising industry stifles the way a woman perceives herself.

Beautifully visualised, this poetry performance is a critical take on the bewildering whirlpool of daily broadsheets, magazines, social media and even textbooks around the Indian woman.
