Nigeria: A heartbreaking story of a two-year-old Nigerian boy named Hope came to light, after he was rescued by, Anja Ringgren Loven, a Danish woman living in Africa.

Hope had been abandoned by his parent and society and left for dead because they thought he was a witch.

When Hope was found by Loven, he was emaciated and riddled with worms after being forced to live off scraps thrown to him by passer-bys for eight months.

Loven found the boy in a distraught condition, she bent down and began feeding him and giving him water from her bottle.

She then wrapped the disorientated and sick toddler in a blanket, holding him in her arms, before taking him to the nearest hospital for treatment.

Loven is the founder of African Children's Aid Education and Development Foundation, which she created three years ago to help children that have been labelled as a witch and therefore neglected and even killed by the members of their community.

She put up a post on the social networking site, Facebook about the miraculous rescue of Hope.

Here is the text:

I've seen much here in Nigeria over the last 3 years. I have spared you for many experiences when we've been on the rescue operations. Thousands of children are being accused of being witches and we've both seen torture of children, dead children and frightened children. This footage shows why I fight. Why I sold everything I own. Why I'm moving out in uncharted territory. Why the new documentary is so important for dinnødhjælps work so we can shout world leaders up so we can get focused on superstition in Nigeria! I hope you will all see with when " Anja Africa ' is being shown on TV. Together we can make the biggest difference! I have chosen to call the boy Hope for right now, we all hope that he survives. He is in the hospital and you guys want to support hope with medicine and hospital bills as you daily pay for hospitalisation here in Nigeria can make a contribution on dinnødhjælps mobilepay:

"When Hope reached the hospital he was given medication to remove the worms from his belly and daily blood transfusions to incorporate more red blood cells into his body", Loven said.

According to Loven’s Facebook posts, Hope has now improved in health and is doing his best to go about life like every other 2-year-old.
