Zimbabwe 'most miserable country in world'
Zimbabwe has been named as the most miserable country according to the Steve Hanke’s Annual Misery Index (HAMI) which 157 countries across the globe. The main reasons for the country’s misery are inflation and very poor GDP growth according to the index prepared by Steve Hanke, professor of Applied Economics at John Hopkins University.
'Thanks to stunning inflation, high unemployment, high lending rates, and anemic real GDP growth, Zimbabwe clocks in as the WORLD'S MOST MISERABLE COUNTRY in the Hanke 2022 Annual Misery Index. Need I say more?'' Steve Hanke tweeted.
On the other hand, according to this index, India ranks 103 with the main contributing factor for misery is unemployment.
New Zealand has improved its performance considerably in the yearly Misery Index, which is a survey of countries' economic conditions. It has improved its position from 151 last year (when there were 156 countries analyzed) to 104 this year.
The 15 most miserable countries across the globe, according to the index are Zimbabwe, Venezuela, Syria, Lebanon, Sudan, Argentina, Yemen, Ukraine, Cuba, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Haiti, Angola, Tonga, and Ghana
