Donald Trump has nothing to offer on jobs: Barack Obama
We have created jobs for 73 months in a row now, wages are rising. Just last week, the unemployment rate was at 4.9 per cent, Obama said.
Washington: US President Barack Obama has slammed Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, saying he has nothing to offer on jobs, except for describing the current situation as a disaster.
"He's got nothing serious to offer on jobs," Obama said at an election rally in New Hampshire on Monday, which has suddenly emerged as a swing state forcing the Clinton Campaign to send him to this State for campaigning.
"There hasn't been enough talk about this economy in this election. And you know why? Because we've created jobs for 73 months in a row now. Wages are rising. Just last week, the unemployment rate was at 4.9 per cent -- that's near the lowest levels in nearly nine years," he said amidst applause from the audience.
"So Donald Trump generally avoids facts or he just denies them. So he said this is a 'disaster'. A disaster,” he said. "I just came from Michigan. You want to know what a real disaster looks like, think back to that state and what we were dealing with eight years ago. The American auto industry was flat on its back. Unemployment was soaring. Today's plants across that state and across the region that were shut down they are now doing double shifts," he said.
"And you know what Donald Trump's idea for the auto industry? He actually suggested that Michigan should send its auto jobs to states that pay their workers less.
"By making Michigan workers suffer, they'd have no choice but to accept less pay if they wanted to get their jobs back," he said slamming Trump, for his economic policies.
Observing that the manufacturing is growing again over these last eight years, first time since the 1990s, Obama said Clinton is going to keep that going.
"She's put forward the biggest investment in new jobs since World War II. She's got plans to grow manufacturing, boost people's wages, help students with college debt. That's why she should be the next President of the United States," he said.
Hitting out at Repuplican nominee Donald Trump, Obama said he is "temperamentally unfit" to be the Commander-in-Chief.
"Look, think about this, over the weekend, his campaign took away his Twitter account. Now, if your closest advisors don't trust you to tweet then how can we trust him with the nuclear codes?" he asked.
He (Trump) is unqualified to be America's chief executive. He brags that he's a business guy, but we have got a lot of businessmen and women who succeed without stiffing small businesses and workers, Obama claimed.
"Once they've already done work for you, and then suddenly you don't pay them and you basically say, you know what, because I got more lawyers than you I don't have to pay you," he said.
The President said an individual's personality does not change with the change in position.
"One thing you learn about this job is who you are, what you are doesn't change once you move into the Oval Office. It only gets magnified, a spotlight is put on you. It's like an EKG for your character," he jokingly said.
"If you denigrate minorities before you take office, then you'll denigrate minorities after you take office. If you think of immigrants as criminals and rapists when you're running for office, then that's how you're going to think once you're in office," Obama said.
If you mock people with disabilities, or treat women as objects, calling them "pigs" and "dogs" and rating them on a 1-to-10 scale instead of based on their character and intelligence, then that's how you're going to think when you're in office, he said.
