Washington: Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton scored big wins on Tuesday in the presidential primary in the key state of Florida, helping to consolidate their frontrunner status in the 2016 White House race.

The win in the Sunshine State for Trump sent rival Marco Rubio, the US senator from Florida, crashing out of the campaign.

Clinton also was victorious in Ohio and North Carolina, while Ohio Governor John Kasich won in his home state.
